范文句型分析:

1. when i got up this morning, 1 had a strange feeling that it just wasn't going to be my day.
    今天早上起床时,我就有一种奇怪的感觉,那就是今天会诸事不顺。
    解说:
a. get up起床(=rise)
   go to bed就寝
  =turn in
  =hit the sack
  *sack n.原意为袋子”,此处指“床,
  例:jim always gets up/rises early every day.
     姆每天都起得很早。
     i [went to bed/turned in/hit the sack] at eleven o'clock last night.
     我昨晚11点钟就寝。
b. …have a strange feeling+that从句
   ……有一种奇怪的感觉,那就是……
   例:i have a strange feeling that i'll meet my ex-girlfriend at the party tonight.

   例:after his car broke down, jerry knew it wasn't going to be his day.

    解说:
   miss vt.错过;想念
   例:connie missed the train by one minute this morning.

      mrs. green misses her son,who went abroad for advanced studies.

3. then,as i was dashing to the bus stop to catch my bus, i stepped on a banana peel,slipped and fell on my backside.

   注意:
   to make matters worse为独立副词短语,通常置于句首,修饰其后的主句。其他常见的类似独立副词短语还有:
   what's even/far worse,…更糟的是,……
   what's even/far better,…更好的是,……
   to make matters even better,…更好的是,……
   另须注意的是,"what's even/far worse/better”之句型是由"what's even/far worse/better is that...”简化而来。
   例 :i overslept this morning. to make matters worse,my car broke down on my way to work.
       今天早上我睡过头了。更糟的是,我的车子在上班途中抛锚了。
       jimmy passed the entrance examinatian; what's even better, he got a scholarship.
       吉米通过了人学考试;更棒的是,他还获得了奖学金。
b. pack  vt.使拥挤
   be packed with…挤满……
  =be crowded with…
  例:the auditorium was packed/crowded with students.
       礼堂里挤满了学生。

5. i had no choice but to take a taxi.
   我除了乘出租车之外别无选择。
   解说:
   have no choice/option/alternative but tov
   除了……外别无选择
  *alternative n.选择
  例:i had no choice/option/alternative but to give the robber all my money.
     我除了把所有的钱给抢匪外别无选择。

6. not until the taxi got to my school did i realize i had left my wallet home.
   直到出租车开到我学校时我才知道我把皮夹忘在家里了.
   解说:
a. not until +s + v+倒装句型直到··一才……
   注意:
   not until引导的状语从句.视为否定状语从句,故置于句首时其后主句须采倒装句型,法则如下:
   (1)主语之后有be动词时,be动词与主语倒装。
    例:not until tom came was i aware of the problem.
      =i was not aware of the problem until tom came.
       直到汤姆来我才知道那个问题。
    (2)主语之后有助动词时,助动词与主语倒装。
     例:not until i arrive will robert start to work.
       =robert will not start to work until i arrive.
        直到我到达时罗伯特才会开始工作。
    (3)句子为一般动词时,则按动词时态与主语人称之不同,在主语前分置do , does或did,其后动词一律改为原形。
       not until ted quit did we know the truth.
      =we didn't know the truth until ted quit.
       直到泰德辞职时我们才知道实情。
b. wallet  n.皮夹(男用)
   purse   n.钱包(女用)

7. after i did a lot of explaining and apologizing, the driver let me go.

   apologize  vi.道歉
   apologize to sb for+n/v-ing因……而向某人道歉
   例:greg apologized to his wife for coming home late.
      格雷格因晚回家而向他太太道歉。

8. finally, i arrived at the school gate.

   解说:
   arrive  vi.到达,抵达
   arrive at+小地方到达某个建筑物(如车站、学校)
   arrive in+大地方到达某个大地方(如都市、国家)
   get to十地方到达某地
   reach十地方到达某地
   例:james arrived at the station on time.
      詹姆斯准时抵达车站。
      the ambassador arrived in washington a week ago.
      大使在一周前抵达华盛顿。
      how can 1 get to the taipei bank?
      我到台北银行要怎么走?
      we will reach paris tomorrow.
      我们明天将抵达巴黎。

   to one's astonishment令某人惊讶的是
   注意:
  "to+所有格+情绪名词”形成的介词短语,通常置于句首,作独立副词,用以修饰全句。用法及例句请参阅本书第38页。

10.whenever it rains,it pours.
一 it never rains but it pours.
   真是祸不单行啊
   解说:
a. 注意:
   上述结构中的but即相当于“if ... not”或“without+v ing”之用法,故原句可等于:
   it never rains if it does not pour.
   或:it never rains without pouring.
      若是不下倾盆大雨,便根本不会下雨—一下雨就下倾盆大雨一坏事一来就接踵而来—祸不单行。
b. pour  vi.(雨)倾盆而下
   例:it's pouring this morning.
     =it's raining heavily/hard this morning.
     =it's raining cats and dogs this morning.
      今天早上雨下得很大。
