A:What's the length of the Great Wall?
B:The Great Wall meanders from east to west for about 6,700 kilometers or 13,000 Chinese li. The Great Wall is one of the oldest artificial constructions in the world. About 2,700 years ago, during the Spring-Autumn and Warring States periods, the northern states of China began to build walls to prevent the nomadic tribes from invading from the North. By the year 221 BC, after Emperor Qinshihuang unified the northern states of China, he connected all the individual walls and made them a long one.
That's today's Great Wall.
The entire Great Wall was re-strengthened from the west point to the east point during the Ming Dynasty to forestall the attacks of the\Mongols from the North.
A: Could you say something in brief about the Imperial Palace?
B: Located in the center of Beijing, the former Imperial Palace , also known as the Purple Forbidden City, was the royal palace tor the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is the largest and most well-preserved complex of palaces in China, as well as the largest group of palaces in the world.
The construction of the largest and most magnificent palace was very difficult at that time, and the protection and maintenance alone during the past 500 years has been very difficult too, requiring numerou designers and builders to work their heart out.
The colors used to apply on the palatial buildings in the Forbidden City, except for the outside beautification, attributed much more to the feudalistic implications in politics. The purple-red walls in combination with the yellow roofs from a strong and eye-catching contrast, show the absolute “authority”,“supremacy” and “richness” of feudal emperors.
A:(At the Summer Palace）Oh, what a wonderful place! Could you give me some information about it, Miss Li?
B:Sure. The Summer Palace is the largest and the best preserved of the imperial gardens in China. It covers an area of 290 hectares, and has halls, pavilions, corridors and bridges almost everywhere.
The Summer Palace consists of two parts, the Longevity Hill and the Kunming Lake. The lake occupies three quarters of the whole area.
The whole project was named the Three Hills and the Five Gardens.
The Summer Palace was a part of it and at that time was named the Garden of Clear Ripples.
The Summer Palace on the one hand is a testimony to the luxurious living style of the feudal emperors and on the other hand is an unforgettable page of humiliation caused by the foreign invaders in the Chinese history.
The plaque above the middle gate with three big Chinese characters were the handwriting of Emperor Guangxu (1875—1908), meaning the Summer Palace. There are more than 8,000 colorful pictures painted on the crossbeams of the Long Corridor. So it is the longest art gallery in the world.

B: Certainly. It has an area of 2.9 square kilometers.

What a vast lake! The water extends as far as the eye can reach.
A: Where did all the materials for the building of the Ming Tombs come from
B: The materials for the building of the tombs were apportioned to various places for contribution. The record has it that the wooden materials were taken from Henan, Hebei, west Beijing an Xiangyang of Hubei Province. Bricks were fired in Jiangsu, Shandong and Hebei, and the glazed tiles were made in the special kilns here in Beijing.
Thirteen of the sixteen Ming emperors were buried here, so that the necropolis is known in Chinese as the Thirteen Tombs.
And the tomb took six years to complete and cost eight million tael of silver, equaling two years' land
taxes for the whole country.
Covering an area of approximately 40 square meters.
There were altogether 13 emperors, 23 empresses/and one concubine. And tens of others were buried alive with the emperors and their wives. In addition tombs of seven other concubines and an eunuch were located here.
How many tomb areas does the Ming Dynasty have?
