3 ways to use 'if only'
Hello, everyone. I'm Sam from BBC Learning English and today we are going to look at the three ways in which we use "If only".
大家好，我是BBC英语学习的萨姆. 今天我们来学习'if only'的三种用法。
We use this to say that we would like something to be different. But be careful! It has (3) different forms.
1. For the PAST: We use "if only + past perfect".
过去式：用法是"if only + 过去完成时".
If only I hadn't left my keys at home.
2. For the PRESENT: We use "If only + past simple".
一般现在时：用法是"if only + 一般过去时"
For example: If only I understood maths!
Or: If only I were better at maths!
Where we use "were" instead of "was".
3. And to talk about the FUTURE: We use "If only + would + verb"
将来时：用法是"If only + would+动词
For example: If only he would call!
If only English is easier!
