  1.How did the story happen?

  2.What did Shylock want from Antonio, the merchant of Venice?

  3.What did Portia decide to do when her husband left to see Antonio?

  4.What do you think of the Duke’s character?

  5.What is your opinion of Shylock?

  6.Why do you think Shylock prefers to take his pound of flesh instead of accepting the money from Bassanio?

  Step 3 Listening and Reading

  Part 1 of the play, ask them to answer the questions in pairs.

  1.What does the Duke ask Shylock to do?

  2.What is Shylock’s reply?

  3.What does Bassanio offer?

  4. What is Shylock’s reply?

  5. What letter does Nerissa, Portia’s maid bring?

  6. What does the letter say?
